Does the gateway need to be connected to the internet at all times for the optimiser to function properly? Is it possible to connect briefly to add the optimiser and then remain offline?

The gateway is used solely as a monitoring device for the optimiser. The optimiser will function normally even without the gateway; however, you will not be able to view its operational status.
